Requirements
Access and practical preparation
Complete the grandmaster quest to unlock the repeatable solo encounter.
Use Drakan's medallion to Castle Drakan, take the Vampyrium portal and follow the unlocked route north to the lair.
Bring Magic or Ranged for the main phase and a crush melee weapon for the close-range punish windows.
Protection prayers are required for projectiles, but must be disabled for the screech.
Core mechanics
What controls the encounter
Alternating projectiles
Green attacks use Ranged and yellow attacks use Magic. Match the protection prayer and move away from the pool left by each projectile.
Screech
Turn off the overhead protection prayer when the boss screeches; the attack style changes immediately afterward.
Ur-Maggot larvae
After the first larva phase, kill larvae before they reach carrion and heal the boss. Ranged weapons can hit them while they travel.
Crush punish window
When the boss advances, sidestep its frontal melee slam and answer with a crush weapon. Avoid standing on larvae while repositioning.
Falling carrion
Shadows mark falling hazards. Move clear without crossing fresh green or yellow pools.

Strategy
A practical step-by-step plan
Enter with two damage roles
Use fire Magic or a ruby-bolt Ranged alternative for the main phase, plus a crush melee weapon for the sidestep punish windows.
Match projectile colours
Protect from Ranged against green and Protect from Magic against yellow, then step away from the pool left on the floor.
Drop prayer for the screech
Disable the overhead before the screech lands, then identify the newly selected projectile style and restore the correct protection.
Stop larvae from healing
Kill Ur-Maggot larvae before they reach carrion. A shortbow or Venator bow can hit travelling larvae without standing on them.
Sidestep the melee sequence
Move out of the frontal slam, attack with crush during the opening, and keep a route clear of carrion shadows and old pools.
Profitability and projections
The Wiki Estimate seeds loot and supply fields from current market inputs when available. Every assumption remains editable and your saved values take priority.
The calculator will update if the selected Wiki method provides a usable average loot value. You can enter your own value at any time.

What should I upgrade next?
Method-specific progression priorities
Fire Wave setup → harmonised nightmare staff with Fire Surge
The main phase has a large fire weakness, making the fire-spell upgrade the first high-end damage purchase.
Zombie axe → Elder maul
A heavy two-handed crush hit fits the short opening after each successful melee sidestep.
Magic shortbow → Venator bow
The bounce effect helps control multiple Ur-Maggot larvae before they reach carrion.
Common mistakes
Avoidable causes of failed or inefficient trips
Keeping an overhead prayer active during the screech
Standing in green pools and losing poison protection
Ignoring yellow pools and delaying the next attack
Letting larvae reach carrion and heal the boss
Standing in front of the melee slam instead of sidestepping the punish window
