A practical step-by-step plan
Reach the Slayer Tower floor
Bring a rock hammer unless automatic smashing is unlocked, and choose Guthan sustain or ordinary melee before the trip.
Finish every kill
Use the rock hammer at low health or let the automatic unlock apply the finishing blow.
Manage alchables
High Alch rune items only when it saves a bank trip, and keep space for granite and bar drops.
Heal deliberately
Switch to the full Guthan set only when healing is needed; use the whip and defender for faster normal kills.

What should I upgrade next?
Method-specific progression priorities
Guthan's warspear → abyssal whip and dragon defender
Use the whip for ordinary damage and switch to all four Guthan pieces only when healing is required.
Unlock automatic smashing
Automatic finishing blows reduce clicks and make the low-attention method smoother.
Bandos armour → Torva armour
Treat Torva as a luxury because Gargoyle profit may take a long time to repay it.
Common mistakes
Avoidable causes of failed or inefficient trips
Ignoring finishing blow
Losing position during alchable drops
Mishandling sustain: Use food, prayer or Guthan healing according to the chosen attention level.
