Overview and location

Access, encounter type and stat targets

Location

Chaos Temple, level 11 to 12 Wilderness

Encounter type

Money maker

Minimum targets
  • Medium Wilderness Diary for the full drop table
  • 37 Prayer
  • Low-risk melee equipment
Recommended targets
  • 60+ Attack
  • Salve amulet (e)
  • Teleport anchoring scroll effect and a rehearsed bridge escape

Requirements

Access and practical preparation

Medium Wilderness Diary

Highly recommended because it raises the main drop-table roll chance from 15% to 50%; profit without it is roughly one quarter of the diary route.

37 Prayer

Use Protect from Magic against Elder Chaos Druids and their Tele Block pressure.

Haunted Mine

Required for the Salve amulet (e) used by the budget melee method.

Wilderness risk

The temple is multi-combat in level 11 to 12 Wilderness, and ordinary teleporting is unreliable while Tele Blocked.

Core mechanics

What controls the encounter

D

Diary drop table

The Medium Wilderness Diary changes the regular loot roll from 15% to 50%, so do not compare non-diary kills with the listed budget method.

High
T

Tele Block pressure

Keep Protect from Magic active against Elder Chaos Druids and assume an escape must work without teleporting.

High
B

Bridge escape

When fighting outside the southern wall, move across the bridge toward the Wilderness ditch before a team controls the route.

High
N

Noted loot

An amulet of avarice notes drops but skulls the wearer, so the budget setup uses Salve amulet (e) unless that extra risk is deliberately accepted.

Medium

Gear progression

Method-specific setups and tradeoffs

01budget Wilderness meleeBudget

Minimum-risk melee

Use a fully replaceable setup while learning the temple, Tele Block pressure and southern bridge route.

  • Rune scimitar
  • Rune defender
  • Monk's robe top and bottom
  • Salve amulet (e)
  • Ardougne cloak 2 and climbing boots
Advantages+ Very low death loss+ Salve bonus still appliesTradeoffs- Lower damage than the Wiki budget setup- Shorter trips
02budget Wilderness meleeRecommended

Wiki budget melee

The current budget reference uses a Dragon scimitar, prayer gear and a Salve amulet (e) for roughly 400 kills per hour.

  • Dragon scimitar
  • Dragon defender
  • Monk's robe top and bottom
  • Salve amulet (e)
  • Barrows gloves and Berserker ring (i)
Advantages+ Matches the intended Wiki method+ Low equipment costTradeoffs- Requires constant Wilderness awareness- Unprotected items remain at risk
03budget Wilderness meleeAlternative

Prayer-focused alternative

Use Proselyte only when the longer prayer duration is worth its weaker Magic defence against player killers.

  • Dragon scimitar
  • Dragon defender
  • Proselyte hauberk and Proselyte cuisse
  • Salve amulet (e)
  • Barrows gloves and climbing boots
Advantages+ Longer Protect from Magic uptime+ Inexpensive replacementTradeoffs- Negative Magic defence- Not automatically safer against player killers

Strategy

A practical step-by-step plan

1

Choose the fighting side

Fight outside the southern wall for denser pirates and the bridge escape, or use the altar only with a planned northward route.

2

Keep Protect from Magic active

Elder Chaos Druids repeatedly cast Tele Block, so preserve Prayer and do not rely on an ordinary teleport during combat.

3

Loot without increasing hidden risk

Use the looting bag and bank roughly every twenty minutes or earlier when the stack reaches the chosen value.

4

Leave across the bridge

Run south toward the Wilderness ditch as soon as player killers appear, then remove Tele Block by leaving the Wilderness or logging out safely.

What should I upgrade next?

Method-specific progression priorities

1

Rune scimitar -> dragon scimitar

The direct one-handed melee upgrade remains compatible with a defender and the Salve amulet (e).

Major upgrade
2

Rune defender -> dragon defender

Add the inexpensive off-hand upgrade without changing the budget identity.

Moderate upgrade
3

Teleport anchoring scroll effect

The permanent unlock prevents Elder Chaos Druids from teleporting the player around the temple, but it does not prevent Tele Block.

Minor upgrade
Upgrade ROIEnter upgrade values to calculate

Common mistakes

Avoidable causes of failed or inefficient trips

Using the 400-kill or diary profit assumptions without the Medium Wilderness Diary

Dropping Protect from Magic while Elder Chaos Druids are attacking

Expecting a teleport to solve an active Tele Block

Standing inside the altar area without a northward escape plan

Risking an amulet of avarice without accounting for its skull
