Requirements

Mandatory and recommended are kept separate

Hard requirements

1 Cooking

The current Wiki method lists level 1 for cutting raw yellowfin. Level 79 Cooking is for cooking the fish, not cutting it.

Raw yellowfin

The tradeable input comes from Deep Sea Trawling and related Sailing content.

Knife or usable chum facility

A knife works at a bank. Boat facilities have separate Sailing, Construction and Fishing requirements.

Recommended

99 Cooking

The yellow fin success chance scales linearly with Cooking level and reaches 100% at 99.

Chum station

Processes two fish per tick and requires 56 Sailing, 45 Construction and 64 Fishing.

Advanced chum station

Processes three fish per tick and requires 68 Sailing and 61 Construction to build.

Chum spreader

Processes four fish per tick and requires 82 Sailing and 74 Construction. This is the setup behind the roughly 11,000 fish/hr Wiki method.

Test a small batch

Record the outputs from your own Cooking level before committing capital.

Location and access

Any bank or chum preparation area

1

Use any bank for the knife method, which automatically cuts one fish every three ticks.

2

For a chum facility, position the boat beside a bank boat and use raw yellowfin on the station. Chum station, advanced chum station and chum spreader process two, three and four fish per tick respectively.

Method

A repeatable practical cycle

1
Choose the process

Use a knife at a bank for the accessible route, or a chum facility for much higher throughput.

2
Price the outputs

Check raw yellowfin, fine fish offcuts and yellow fin prices.

3
Cut a measured sample

Process raw yellowfin and record both output types at your Cooking level.

4
Set your average value

Enter the measured average output value per raw fish in the calculator.

5
Scale carefully

Only buy a larger input stack after confirming both the success rate and actual sale prices.

XP vs profit

What changes the tradeoff

2 Cooking XP each; about 4K XP/hr by knife or up to 22K with a chum spreader

Cutting gives 2 Cooking XP per raw fish. A knife automatically cuts one fish every 3 ticks, while chum facilities process 2, 3 or 4 fish per tick. The yellow fin success chance scales to 100% at 99 Cooking, so level affects profit rather than the level 1 cutting access.

Common mistakes

Method-specific checks

1

Using cooked-yellowfin XP as the cutting XP rate

2

Assuming every cut produces the rare output

3

Ignoring the value of fine fish offcuts

4

Buying a large stack before testing the new-item market

Useful upgrades

Improvements that affect this method

1
Higher Cooking level

Improves the chance of receiving yellow fins while cutting.

2
Chum preparation facility

May process multiple fish per cycle where unlocked and convenient.

3
Measured personal sample

Produces a more trustworthy average output value for your level.
