Method
A repeatable practical cycle
Deposit enough coins for the session and pay the foreman separately if below 60 Smithing.
Start with a 26 to 28 coal buffer so iron ore does not become iron bars, then deposit iron ore and coal together on each cycle.
Equip Ice gloves or Smiths' gloves (i), take the bars and bank them before the output buffer fills.
Use 5,400 bars/hr only as the upper reference for the current guide. Moderate play can be closer to 3,000 bars/hr.
XP vs profit
What changes the tradeoff
Each steel bar gives 17.5 Smithing XP. Pace raises XP and output together, while 1 coal per bar, stamina use and the coffer determine net profit.
